This study analyzed the impact of carrying weapons in Ecuador, motivated by the promulgation of decree No. 707. The objective was to evaluate its potential effect on citizen security and its implications in terms of violence and public well-being. A qualitative approach was used based on the review of legal documents, previous studies and statistical data related to armed violence and accidents in similar contexts. The results showed that, although the decree facilitated access to weapons as a self-defense tool, it also increased the risk of violent incidents and the proliferation of illegal weapons. It was highlighted that the regulation of the carrying of weapons should be complemented by comprehensive strategies that address the underlying causes of crime, such as social inequality. The work recommended future research to monitor the impact of the decree and evaluate educational policies on the responsible use of weapons.
