Environmental management, eco-efficiency and its relationship with the optimization of solid waste

Abstract

In recent years, various investigations have been carried out on environmental management, eco-efficiency, and the optimization of solid waste, becoming a topic of great relevance, not only in the environment but also for the future of humanity. In different countries, the management of solid waste has been considered as one of the greatest challenges in governments, especially due to the economic issue. To determine the correlation that exists between environmental management, the eco-efficiency of municipal workers and its relationship with the optimization of solid waste. An applied quantitative research was carried out, it had a non-experimental design, with a causal correlational scope, the population was made up of 340 employees of the solid waste management sub-management of a municipality in Lima, using a probabilistic sample for convenience of 191 collaborators. The information for this study was obtained through three instruments, from which acceptable reliability levels were obtained, through the Cronbach alpha statistical process, the technique used was the survey. The approach of the proposed hypotheses is confirmed, where it is verified that the environmental management and the eco-efficiency of the workers significantly influence the optimization of solid waste, obtaining a partial correlation of zero order with a (0,763 and pvalue=0,000) , given through the indicators of the logistic regression used with the pseudo r square of the Nagelkerke model (0,861), which explains the level of influence of the variables on the optimization of solid waste. It was concluded that the environmental management and the eco-efficiency of the workers significantly influence the optimization of solid waste, therefore it is determined that the municipalities and the workers dedicated to the environmental field are responsible for carrying out an appropriate management of the optimization of solid waste, likewise it is necessary for municipalities to prioritize the reuse, recycling, and treatment of solid waste, finally it is necessary for the municipality to train its workers so that they can implement new initiatives for improvement of environmental management.
