Abstract

In the Urban History Research Team led by Celia Guevara we study the riparian public space of the Northern Corridor, R.M.B.A. We identify a link between urban opening and the existence of organizations in defense of public space, which led to formulating a hypothesis about the relationship between the lack of interaction between social classes and the progress of the privatization of space. Aim. Describe exercises to apply interdisciplinary methods for the study of interaction between social classes and the privatization of public space. Addressing the city as a complex system. We ask ourselves: Is the defense of public space possible when there are walls that prevent interaction between social classes? To work interdisciplinary, we investigate: what can each discipline contribute to the study of the hypothesis in its different dimensions/aspects? Based on the interpretation of the hypothesis from each discipline or in pairs, reflection on methodological strategies and discussions after field work. Elaborating coincidences and differences between disciplinary approaches. Conclusions. In a multidiscipline framework the conclusion refers to different approaches that lead to a common result. Urbanism The conclusion refers to the loss of communication of the inhabitants with each other which leads to privatization. Political science we would talk about different strategies to defend this space and the reaction of the inhabitants in the face of those losses. Anthropology We would study the different behaviors determined by the existence of barriers and walls. Urban history would allege as proof the Hispanic planning of the 16th century that privileged public space. Sociology are marking a tendency to confinement and homogeneity in endo-group interactions.
