Evaluation of knowledge on biosafety culture in waste management among Uniandes staff

The lack of education and effective policies in waste management has led to an alarming increase in environmental pollution. The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of biosafety culture in waste management among administrative, teaching, and student personnel at UNIANDES, emphasizing the importance of waste separation and promoting circular economy policies. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with a random sample of 98 participants. The results indicated a general adequate knowledge about solid waste (93 %), but a deficiency in proper disposal and recycling (52 %). Only 14 % were aware of the university's "Non-Hazardous Solid Waste Management Plan." It is concluded that implementing a solid educational approach and institutional policies is crucial to improving waste management and promoting sustainability and recycling within the university community.
