Evaluation of the curvature of the mesio-vestibular canals of the mesial roots of lower molars

Abstract

The correct biomechanical preparation of root canals is fundamental in endodontic therapy and depends on a detailed understanding of the internal anatomy of the teeth. The objective of the study was to evaluate the degree and radius of curvatures of the mesiobuccal canals in the mesial roots of extracted lower first molars from Ecuadorian patients. Seventy lower first molars were analyzed using radiographic techniques and AutoCad 2013 tracing, applying the Schneider and curvature radius methods. The results showed that the majority of the canals presented moderate curvature according to both methods. A statistically significant difference was observed between the angles and radii of curvature. It is concluded that precise knowledge of these curvatures is crucial for the planning and success of endodontic treatment, and it is recommended to consider the application of neutrosophy in future studies to improve measurement accuracy.
